Keywords:

There are three active, licensed low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities in what the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) calls Agreement States.

Beginning in 2008, however, the Barnwell operation limited its acceptance of nuclear waste to Connecticut, New Jersey and South Carolina.

•?American Ecology Corp. in Richland, Wash., accepts waste from the Northwest and Rocky Mountain compacts. Richland is licensed by the State of Washington.

•?EnergySolutions' operation in Clive, Utah, accepts waste from all regions of the United States. Clive is licensed by the State of Utah.
