PEOPLE The Russians come and heads roll at UC Rusal

Keywords:

Heads were spinning, and rolling, as Russia's United Co. Rusal, the world's largest aluminum producer, put new managers in place and sent a few packing.

Most notable were the changes at Rusal America Corp., Harriman, N.Y., which got a new president, Sergei Bubnov, a chief operating officer, Richard Kellner, and a new sales director, Mark Bodner. Gone is longtime Rusal America president Bruce Markowitz, to the general surprise of many in the tightly knit primary aluminum community.

Bubnov, who will report to the board of Rusal America, was a member of the team that established Rusal's North American headquarters in 1999. He also was director of the export sales department at Rusal from 2003 to 2006.

Vladimir Kremer, UC Rusal's managing director of sales and marketing and another Sual alumnus who did not leave the company, now heads UC Rusal's new operation in Zug, Switzerland, which the company has established to centralize its sales and marketing operations closer to customers and the offices of other international metals companies.

Back home in Russia, Alexander Bulygin, former chief executive officer of Rusal, is chief executive officer of UC Rusal, while Victor Vekselberg, former chairman of Sual, is non-executive chairman of UC Rusal.

Out is Andrew Michelmore, former chief executive officer of En+, the division of Oleg Deripaska's holding company with oversight of UC Rusal. Michelmore originally had been named to UC Rusal's board when the merger was completed in late March.
