German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp is to provide the Algerian navy with two frigates.
The Essen-based manufacturer’s marine division will supply the North African country’s naval service with two Meko A200 warships, according to Algerian press reports.
The two frigates are worth a combined €400 million ($523 million) and will be delivery this year.
ThyssenKrupp told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday April 10 that it would not comment further on the order.
The deal, according to the reports, is the outcome of negotiations with the Algerian ministry of defence, which is attempting to modernise its naval forces.
