Plant manufacturer Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will supply a merchant bar mill to Indian steel company BMM Ispat, according to a press release issued this week.
The rolling mill will be located in Hospet, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It will have a production capacity of 850,000 tpy and its expected to start production at the end of 2013.
BMM Ispat is the second-largest steel company in Karnataka and plans to increase production capacity to 2 million tpy at Hospet.
Its iron ore requirements will be sourced from the company’s own mines in the region.
“With the bar rolling mill, the company is expanding its production capacities for structural steel. The new plant is designed for the production of a wide range of end products,” Siemens said.
“These include reinforcing steels, round bars, flat and square bars, angles and channel sections. Low- and medium-carbon or low-alloy steel grades as well as spring and free cutting steel can be processed,” it concluded.
Siemens is supplying the complete mechanical and electrical equipment of the rolling line and the cooling zone, as well as systems for bundling and tying up the bars produced.
