NEW YORK Nucor Corp. plans to start up the twin-tank vacuum degasser at its Armorel, Ark., sheet mill in October.
The new degasser will be capable of treating up to 50 percent of the available melt capacity at the site, the Charlotte, N.C.-based company said.
The project is part of the steelmakers plans to increase its range of products (AMM, Jan. 31).
The company expects to complete construction and start commissioning another vacuum tank degasser at its new heat-treat line at the companys Hertford County, N.C., plate mill in the third quarter, president and chief operating officer John Ferriola said when the company reported earnings April 19.
