Vale has appointed Roger Downey executive director of fertilisers and coal.
The former ceo at Brazil’s iron ore producer MMX, Downey replaces Eduardo de Salles Bartolomeo, who left the company to “take on new challenges in his successful career”, Vale said on Wednesday May 2.
Downey had previously worked for Vale in 2005, as manager for strategic marketing of iron ore. After that, he held the position of director of equity research at Credit Suisse until he assumed the role of ceo and investor relations director at MMX.
Downey left MMX late last year
for reasons “entirely and exclusively of a personal nature”, he said at the time.
Vale’s ceo, Murilo Ferreira, has made some significant management changes at the world’s largest iron ore producer since he assumed the role in May last year, when he took over from long-standing ceo Roger Agnelli.
He immediately replaced director of human resources Carla Grasso
, who was closely linked to Agnelli and, late last year, he appointed three new members to the miner’s executive board as part of a restructuring plan
Under Vale’s new management model, each executive director is responsible for planning, new business development, operations, and marketing and sales of their own business unit.
