NEW YORK — ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA LLC has lowered its stainless surcharges for May on the back of falling nickel prices.

The Calvert, Ala.-based company set its surcharges at 87.72 cents per pound for Type 304, down 6.5 percent from 93.86 cents in April; 58.75 cents for Type 201, down 4.9 percent from 61.78 cents; and $1.2727 per pound for Type 316, down 6.2 percent from $1.3566 per pound. Its surcharge for Type 430 material, which contains no nickel, fell 0.6 percent to 28.01 cents per pound from 28.19 cents last month.

It follows similar moves by other stainless mills last week (AMM, April 25).
