Hotline has heard that as of May 1, GreenEDGE, Australia’s first professional cycling team, is now sponsored by mining supplier Orica, and will henceforth be known as Orica-GreenEDGE

GreenEDGE exploded (pun intended) onto the UCI World Tour in January this year with a comprehensive victory in the first UCI event of the year, and the team’s debut in the world tour series, at the Tour Down Under.

The team’s first outing under the new sponsor will be at the Giro D’Italia, starting this Saturday in Herning, Denmark, on May 5 and finishing in Milan three weeks later.

“GreenEDGE is the first Australian team at this level and it offers Orica a powerful sports marketing platform, perfectly aligned with our values and drivers,” Ian Smith, md and ceo of Orica, said.

According to its website, Orica is the world’s largest provider of commercial explosives, blasting systems and blast-based services for the mining industry.
