CHICAGO — Ferrous 85" Co. has installed the largest slitter in North America, according to the company.
The company—formed by Downers Grove, Ill.-based TMK Ipsco and Brooklyn, Ohio-based Ferrous Metal Processing Co.—began commercial operations on site at TMK’s Wilder, Ky., plant on Aug. 23.
Ferrous 85" slits incoming material from 0.156- to 0.625-inch thick and between 30 and 87 inches wide. The line can accept master coils of up to 41 tons. Slit widths range from 12 to 85 inches.
Ferrous 85" has a 12-year contract under which it will provide 100 percent of TMK Ipsco’s slitting needs on a toll basis. It also will slit for other customers as capacity allows.
