NEW YORK — Chinese steel pipe producer Wuhu Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co. Ltd. has awarded Austria’s Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH a contract to supply a rod mill for its plant in Wuhu City, China.

The rod mill will allow the company to enter the high-quality and specialty steel markets, and will extend its product portfolio to include rod products ranging from 5- to 22-millimeter diameters.

The project is expected to start up in late 2012.

Wuhu Xinxing produces 2.6 million tonnes of ductile iron pipe and fittings, reinforcing bar and steel grating annually.
