PITTSBURGH Four New York men have been convicted of stealing processed scrap that was en route to a steel mill.
Richard E. Riedman, 39, of Webster; Anthony J. Russell, 39, of Rochester; Timothy M. Stone, 32, of Chili; and Anthony Toscano, 47, of Rochester, were convicted of conspiracy to steal an interstate shipment and theft of an interstate shipment, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
Each man faces 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced in January, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office in New York.
In 2009, the group used a logging truck to remove more than 16 gross tons of baled scrap from a CSX Transportation rail facility in Batavia, N.Y. The material was headed to a Pennsylvania steel mill. The Genesee County Sheriffs Office arrested the men as they attempted to exit the yard.
None of the men could be reached for comment.
