SÃO PAULO — Vale SA resumed iron ore transport operations at its Estrada de Ferro Carajás (EFC) railway in northern Brazil early Friday after it won an injunction from a Brazilian court to stop protestors who had been obstructing the line.

The injunction enabled authorities to remove indigenous Brazilian Indians who blocked the railroad between the villages of Mineirinho and Auzilândia in the Alto Alegre do Pindaré municipality in Brazil’s northeastern Maranhão state.

The protest was directed against the Federal Attorney General’s Office and wasn’t directly related to Vale’s activities, the miner said earlier in the week.

EFC transports around 350,000 tonnes of iron ore per day. With Vale’s shipments disrupted since the morning of Oct. 2, some 1 million tonnes of iron ore was prevented from moving along the railway.

Staff at the miner’s press office weren’t available to confirm that figure or say whether the company would be able to make up for the loss over the next few weeks.
