NEW YORK Misumi USA Inc. plans on expanding its recently
opened West Coast operations, marketing communications manager
Patrick Esposito told AMM Friday.
Schaumburg, Ill.-based Misumia division of Tokyos
Misumi Group Inc.recently added cutting capabilities to
its Los Angeles service center and will begin drilling and
precision cutting at the California facility in the next six
months, Esposito said.
Misumi produces and supplies components for automated machinery
used in labor-saving production systems, including factory
automation equipment. It also develops and supplies connection
harnesses, cables, connectors, breakers, switches and other
control device parts, and develops components used in metal
press and molding dies for the automotive, electronics and
electrical machinery industries.
Misumi currently offers drilling and precision cutting at its
Chicago plant, Esposito said, but due to expected demand
increases across a variety of key industries--notably
automotive, medical, packaging and pharmaceuticalthe
parent decided to add equipment to the West Coast center, which
specializes in aluminum extrusions and opened in
The West Coast continues to be a strong market for us.
We're not only serving the Western seaboard, but Arizona,
Nevada and Texas, too, he said. Medical devices is
a very important market for us. We expect that to grow.
The auto sector should continue to be strong as well as more
automakers continue to shift to the lightweight metal to meet
growing fuel emissions standards, he added.
It is unclear how President Obama's Affordable Care Act will
affect the domestic medical devices industry, he said.
In theory, it could help if usage increases,
Esposito said. But there may be logjams in the system for
18 months. We just don't know.
