PHILADELPHIA Less than a year after being appointed to a new executive position at Sims Metal Management Ltd., Alan Ratner has left to join New York-based Hugo Neu Corp.
Ratner, who was named Sims executive vice president of operations and safety, health, environment and community earlier this year after nearly four decades with the recycler (amm.com, Feb. 2), will join Hugo Neu Recycling LLC on Wednesday as chief operating officer, Hugo Neu confirmed.
Ratner will be responsible for WeRecycle! LLC, a Mount Vernon, N.Y.-based electronics recycling business in the Hugo Neu group of companies. He also will also play a role in the design and construction of the companys planned recycling operation in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico plant, which has already received environmental permits, is expected to cost about $80 million and process ferrous scrap, curbside material and electronics (amm.com, June 29).
"Wendy and I have known Alan for many years. He has extensive experience in all aspects of operations and safety/environmental issues, and supports many of our management goals, including a strong environmental program, energy savings and a rewarding incentive compensation program at all levels of the company," John Neu told AMM in an e-mail.
Ratners departure from Sims comes less than a year after the New York-based recycler restructured its senior management team and eliminated its co-president position. Ratner had been co-president of the companys North America Metals segment prior to being named executive vice president.
A spokesman for Sims said the company does not comment on personnel matters.
