CHICAGO — ExlTube Co. and Hanna Steel Corp. have separately announced plans to increase prices on tubular products by at least $50 per ton ($2.50 per hundredweight), throwing their weight behind a round of price increases recently announced by other domestic pipe and tube mills.

North Kansas City, Mo.-based ExlTube said it was raising prices for all square, rectangular and round mechanical and structural products by a minimum of $50 per ton, according to a Nov. 19 letter to customers. The company said existing contract prices would be honored and orders already on its books would be kept at pre-increase levels for shipments through Dec. 14.

ExlTube said it also planned to boost tags on all A-53 B standard pipe products by a minimum of $50 per ton. The company said the increase applied to all unconfirmed quotations and contracts, but existing orders would be price-protected for shipments on or before the original confirmation dates.

Fairfield, Ala.-based Hanna Steel has also lifted its prices by a minimum of $50 per ton, according to a Nov. 19 letter to customers. Hanna said confirmed orders would be held at current prices through Dec. 15 shipments.

The announcements follow similar moves by competitor mills. A number of domestic mills have increased prices by a minimum of $50 per ton following leading moves by Chicago-based JMC Steel Group Inc. subsidiaries Wheatland Tube Co. on pipe ( amm.com, Nov. 16) and Atlas Tube Inc. on structural tubing ( amm.com, Nov. 19).

The increases come in the wake of domestic mills’ announced price hikes on coil products by the same amount ( amm.com, Nov. 7).
