SHANGHAI Jinchuan Group Ltd.s total annual nickel capacity will rise to 150,000 tonnes this year with the start-up of its extended smelting line, according to an industry source.
Chinas largest nickel producer has a current capacity of 130,000 tonnes per year.
The expanded smelting line can produce 60,000 tonnes of refined nickel annually. It consists of 576 electric tanks, 288 of which started operation before Nov. 10. The rest will be in full production Dec. 14, the source told AMM sister publication Metal Bulletin.
The line is expected to produce 8,000 tonnes of refined nickel by the end of 2012.
Jinchuan expects to produce 135,000 tonnes of refined nickel this year, up from 130,000 tonnes in 2011, the source said.
