NEW YORK AK Steel Corp. has followed other large domestic mills in cutting most stainless raw material surcharges in December on the back of lower nickel prices.
The West Chester, Ohio-based steelmaker set its surcharge at 73.1 cents per pound for Type 304 material, down 8.1 percent from 79.55 cents in November; 49.37 cents for Type 201, down 5.2 percent from 52.07 cents; and $1.0295 per pound for Type 316, down 8.2 percent from $1.121.
It raised its surcharge for Type 430, which contains no nickel, to 21.81 cents per pound, up 8.2 percent from 20.16 cents the prior month.
