NEW YORK — AK Steel Corp. has followed other large domestic mills in cutting most stainless raw material surcharges in December on the back of lower nickel prices.

The West Chester, Ohio-based steelmaker set its surcharge at 73.1 cents per pound for Type 304 material, down 8.1 percent from 79.55 cents in November; 49.37 cents for Type 201, down 5.2 percent from 52.07 cents; and $1.0295 per pound for Type 316, down 8.2 percent from $1.121.

It raised its surcharge for Type 430, which contains no nickel, to 21.81 cents per pound, up 8.2 percent from 20.16 cents the prior month.
