NEW YORK U.S. raw steel output totaled 1,827,000 net tons last week, down 0.7 percent from 1,840,000 tons the previous week, as mills operated at an average capability utilization rate of 73.9 percent.
In the corresponding week a year earlier, mills produced 1,863,000 tons at an average utilization rate of 75.2 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington.
Mills produced a year-to-date total of 97,227,000 tons at an average capability utilization rate of 75.7 percent, up 2.7 percent from the same period in 2011, when mills produced 94,705,000 tons at an average capability utilization rate of 74.4 percent
