PITTSBURGH — Steven Zaritsky, doing business as 1599 West LLC, is asking the Santa Maria Planning Commission in California to issue a planned development permit to open a California Redemption Value (CRV) recycling center.

In addition to collecting used beverage containers, the facility would purchase obsolete ferrous and nonferrous metal and vehicles. The recycler expects to ship three sorted loads a day, and the only processing that would be done is baling.

Zaritsky could not be reached for comment.

The 3.3-acre site, which is zoned for heavy manufacturing use, most recently was used by a towing company.
