NEW YORK — Quanex Building Products Corp. has acquired window and patio door screen manufacturer Alumco Inc.

The acquisition will allow Houston-based Quanex to expand regionally—traditionally, it has served national brands—and further downstream, a company spokeswoman told AMM.

"(The acquisition) increases our customer base. The more component options that we give our customers, the more we can create a one-stop shop," she said.

Chehalis, Wash.-based Alumco has 300 employees at nine manufacturing facilities throughout the United States. The company serves primarily vinyl window manufacturers, while Quanex, a subsidiary of aluminum sheet producer Nichols Aluminum LLC, produces screens for the wood window industry.

Quanex declined to disclose the cost of the acquisition. "It’s immaterial enough that we’re not going to release any of the financials," the spokeswoman said

Alumco will become part of Quanex’s Engineered Products Group.
