NEW YORK — The city of Great Falls, Mont., has applied for an $832,500 state grant to help ADF Group Inc. offset construction costs at a new steel fabrication plant.

If approved, the grant will go toward construction of ADF’s new 100,000-square-foot facility, the vice president of Great Falls Development Authority, Jeremiah Johnson, told AMM Friday.

The Terrebonne, Quebec-based company announced in November that it planned to begin construction on the facility in spring this year (amm.com, Nov. 5). Production capacity at the facility, part of the company’s plan to expand in the western United States, is projected at 25,000 tons of fabricated steel annually.

The state of Montana will review the grant within the next six weeks and is likely to approve it, Johnson said. The grant, intended to encourage businesses to set up shop in the state, amounts to $7,500 for each of the 111 jobs—paying more than $16.70 an hour—ADF plans to create.

"It’s completely a job-creation incentive from the state," Johnson said. "It’s a grant available to companies who are creating high-wage jobs."

ADF has already moved to recruit a work force and plans to start production in fall 2013. "Everything’s moving forward full force," Johnson said.
