NEW YORK — Owl’s Head Alloys Inc. is adding a secondary aluminum ingot casting line at its Bowling Green, Ky., facility as it seeks to boost its A380.1 output.

The new ingot line will have a production capacity of 3 million pounds per month, with potential to expand, Owl’s Head president David Bradford told AMM, adding that the line is expected to be complete by "late spring."

The company will continue to make 380-specification aluminum sow in addition to 380-specification ingot, Bradford said.

"We’ve been doing automotive sow for a while now, so this just gives us the opportunity to process more metal," he said.

While the line will primarily handle the requirements of "current tolling customers ... we’re always looking for new business," Bradford added.

One current tolling customer told AMM that it plans to shift about 1 million pounds per month of business to Owl’s Head this year after reviewing positive reports from its own customer base on the quality of alloys produced at the company’s facility.

Owl’s Head has expanded rapidly since its founding in 2002, and in 2010 it completed a $3-million expansion that included the addition of a new rotary furnace (amm.com, March 4, 2010).
