Brazil’s ferroalloys exports rise 17.1% in 2012

SÃO PAULO — Brazilian exports of ferroalloys rose 17.1 percent to 422,279 tonnes in 2012 from 360,522 tonnes a year earlier, customs data show.

The Netherlands and Japan were the largest buyers, at 78,166 tonnes and 77,996 tonnes, respectively, followed by China, at 42,890 tonnes.

Exports of ferrosilicon rose 1 percent to 145,102 tonnes in 2012 from 143,602 tonnes a year earlier, while those of ferrosilicomanganese fell 17.7 percent to 55,119 tonnes from 66,940 tonnes, and ferrocolumbium (ferroniobium) remained virtually unchanged at 70,948 tonnes.
