NEW YORK — An unidentified man was killed in an accident at a Sims Metal Management Ltd. facility Wednesday.

A company spokesman said that a "longtime customer" suffered fatal injuries when he was struck while unloading a junk vehicle from his own flatbed carrier at the New York-based company’s North Haven, Conn., facility. Sims employees responded immediately with first aid and notified emergency services.

No company personnel were involved in the accident, a Sims spokesman said. "We are working diligently with state and local law enforcement and with (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) in their investigations while the remainder of our facility remains open."
