CHICAGO Volkswagen Group of America Inc., with partner Eaton Corp., has introduced a single-port combined charging system (CCS) electric vehicle charger at VWs Electronics Research Laboratory in Belmont, Calif., as the automaker looks to expand electric vehicle infrastructure in the United States.
"To fuel the market success of electric vehicles, a standardized infrastructure is urgently needed to provide customers with entry into this new drive technology," Rudolpf Krebs, Volkswagen Groups chief officer for electric traction, said in a statement.
Capable of recharging most electric vehicles with compatible systems in as little as 30 minutes, the product marks the beginning of a CCS-compliant single-port fast-charging infrastructure development in the United States and Europe, VW said.
