CHICAGO — MMFX Technologies Corp. has appointed steel industry veteran Thomas Russo as its new chief executive officer.

The Irvine, Calif.-based material science company, which supplies uncoated, corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel, said Russo’s knowledge and relationships would help its products gain wider acceptance.

Russo joins MMFX from Trusscon Inc., a consulting company focused on the steel manufacturing and processing sectors. He began his career in 1977 at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. rod and wire mill in Sparrows Point, Md., moving on to more senior positions. When Sparrows Point was purchased by OAO Severstal, Russo was named president and general manager, titles he held until retiring in 2010.

Russo is president of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation, a group that aims to attract young technology professional to the steel industry.

MMFX president Michael Pompay had been serving as acting chief executive officer prior to Russo's hire, a company spokesman confirmed.

MMFX reinforcing steel products are available in North America, the Middle East and, most recently, South America (, Dec. 20).
