NEW YORK — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is seeking comment on a draft review of the national ambient air quality standards for primary and secondary lead, although no revisions are being proposed at this time.

"The analyses presented in the draft to address such questions led to preliminary staff conclusions that it is appropriate to consider retaining the current primary and secondary standards without revision; accordingly, no potential alternative standards have been identified by staff for consideration in this review," the EPA said.

The Clean Air Act requires periodic reviews of existing air quality criteria to reflect advances in scientific knowledge on the effects of pollutants on public health or welfare.

The deadline for public comment is Feb. 4.
