CHICAGO — Rick Heimann has been named director of the Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor, effective Wednesday.

Heimann most recently served as sourcing manager at ArcelorMittal USA Inc., East Chicago, Ind., specializing in rail and water transportation.

“Rick’s experience in supply chain management with a heavy focus on rail and water will be an invaluable asset to our team,” Rich Cooper, the port authority’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.

“The customer base, the synergies they provide and logistical capabilities of the port provides users with a strong competitive advantage,” Heimann said. He will meet with port users to help them identify new opportunities that would increase port activity.

Prior to joining ArcelorMittal, Heimann was transportation manager at AK Steel Holdings Corp. and served as sales manager for a barge line.
