NEW YORK — Amerigo Resources Ltd. produced 13.6 million pounds of copper and 290,705 pounds of molybdenum during the fourth quarter of 2012 at its Minera Valle Central facility, posting a full-year total of 51.7 million pounds of copper and 1,057,717 pounds of molybdenum.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based company said production at the plant near Rancagua, Chile, surpassed the company’s guidance for the three months ended Dec. 31, as well as for the full year.

“Annual copper and molybdenum production from (Minera Valle Central) has steadily increased and is now at record levels,” Amerigo president and chief executive officer Klaus Zeitler said in a statement Jan. 16.

He added that 2012 copper production was 11 percent higher than the previous record of 46.6 million pounds in 2010.

Molybdenum production was 35 percent higher in 2012 than in the previous year, when the facility produced a then-record 785,068 pounds, Zeitler said.

“I am now looking forward to improved financial results in 2013 due to significantly lower power costs and lower capital outlays,” he added.

Amerigo produces copper and molybdenum concentrates from tailings produced by Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile’s (Codelco’s) El Teniente copper mine in Chile.
