MOSCOW Russias principal steelmakers boosted their combined export volumes for rolled products by 7 percent to 24.2 million tonnes in 2012 compared with the previous year, according to not-for-profit steelmaking partnership Russian Steel.
Production of rolled steel by the major Russian steelmakers stood at 55.3 million tonnes in 2012, up 3 percent from the previous year, Russian Steel said.
The steelmakers also sold 31.1 million tonnes of rolled products in the domestic market last year, up 0.1 percent from 2011.
December export volumes rose 0.6 percent year on year to 2.1 million tonnes, Russian Steel said. However, domestic sales for the month fell 9 percent year on year to 2.3 million tonnes and output fell 4.5 percent to 4.4 million tonnes in the same comparison.
Russian Steel collects production and sales data from member companies, including EvrazHolding OOO, Moscow; Novolipetsk Steel OJSC, Lipetsk, Russia; Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works, Magnitogorsk, Russia; and Mechel OAO and Metalloinvest Holding Co., both based in Moscow.
