Stainless mills raise extras on uptick in moly, nickel prices

NEW YORK — Large domestic flat-rolled stainless steel producers have raised most surcharges slightly for February on the back of an uptick in nickel, ferrochrome and molybdenum prices.

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. set its surcharges at 78.39 cents per pound for Type 304 material, up 1.2 percent from 77.47 cents this month; 52 cents per pound for Type 201, up 1.5 percent from 51.23 cents; and $1.1163 per pound for Type 316, up 2 percent from $1.0941. Its surcharge for Type 430, which contains no nickel, has been set at 21.81 cents per pound, up 2.5 percent from 21.28 cents.

ATI Allegheny Ludlum Corp., part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Technologies Inc., set its February surcharges at 78.46 cents per pound for Type 304, up 1.2 percent from 77.51 cents; 50.97 cents per pound for Type 201, up 0.8 percent from 50.56 cents; $1.1193 per pound for Type 316, up 2.3 percent from $1.0945; and 21.83 cents per pound for Type 430, up 2.6 percent from 21.28 cents.

Ghent, Ky.-based North American Stainless Inc. (NAS) set its surcharges at 78.45 cents per pound for Type 304, up 1.2 percent from 77.5 cents; 50.24 cents per pound for Type 201, up 1 percent from 49.74 cents; $1.1183 per pound for Type 316, up 2.2 percent from $1.0945; and 21.83 cents per pound for Type 430, up 2.6 percent from 21.28 cents.

Calvert, Ala.-based Outokumpu Stainless USA LLC set its surcharges at 78.46 cents per pound for Type 304, up 1.2 percent from 77.51 cents; 50.60 cents per pound for Type 201, up 0.9 percent from 50.15 cents; $1.1187 per pound for Type 316, up 2.2 percent from $1.095; and 21.83 cents per pound for Type 430, up 2.6 percent from 21.28 cents.
