CHICAGO Alcoa Inc. has named John Martin president of its global primary products division in the United States.
Martin, 48, will oversee six smelters, an alumina refinery and a spent potlining recycling facility, the Pittsburgh-based aluminum producer said Feb. 6.
Martin previously served as manager of Alcoas Massena, N.Y., operations and oversaw the restart of the Massena East plant in 2011, the company said.
"His plant-level experience, combined with a demonstrated focus on execution, will be keys to achieving continued improvements among our U.S.-based global primary products facilities," according to Bob Wilt, chief operating officer of the global primary products division.
Martin began his career at Alcoa in 1986 as a mechanical engineer at the companys Warrick plant in Evansville, Ind. He became smelting technical manager in 2004; two years later, he was named manager of the Warrick casthouse and became power plant manager in 2008.
Replacing Martin on an interim basis are Bob Lenney, serving as Massena East plant manager, and Steve Rombough, who will serve as Massena West plant manager, Alcoa said.
