LONDON — Indian demand for containerized ferrous scrap is expected to pick up next week after the Chinese national holiday comes to a close, sources said.

There have been small pockets of demand in the past couple of days, but otherwise the market has been quiet, one market source told AMM sister publication Steel First.

"Everything is pretty flat. We’ve got our regular people we sell to, but ... there’s nothing else out there," a U.K.-based scrap merchant added.

On Monday, AMM lowered its East Coast Ferrous Scrap Export Index to $362.99 per tonne, down 1.4 percent from $368.24 per tonne the previous week. AMM’s West Coast Ferrous Scrap Export Index also slipped, dropping 1.6 percent week over week to $380.48 per tonne.
