NEW YORK Law enforcement officials have uncovered an alleged vehicle theft ring operating out of an Illinois scrapyard that has so far netted five stolen cars and $300,000 worth of stolen china, the Illinois State Police said Feb. 11.
Following an investigation, officers stopped a tractor-trailer leaving Granite City-based Scrap Solutions and found two stolen vehicles inside the trailer, according to a release. Agents then searched the Scrap Solutions yard Feb. 7 and recovered three more stolen vehicles and the tableware.
No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
The Illinois State Polices Metro East Auto Theft Task Force, the St. Louis Police Departments Anti-Crime Unit, the St. Louis County Police Department, the Madison County Sheriffs Department, the Granite City Police Department, and officials from the Madison County Environmental Enforcement and Madison County Zoning agencies aided in the investigation.
The police could not be reached for comment.
