NEW YORK — Steel Dynamics Inc.’s Roanoke Bar division has decreased its base price on all bar products except reinforcing bar by $50 per ton ($2.50 per hundredweight) effective Feb. 15.

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based SDI did not indicate in a letter to customers why it lowered prices, but its decision followed a leading move by Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp. to cut prices on merchant bars and structural products by $50 per ton in "order to better respond to market conditions" (amm.com, Feb. 15).

Gerdau Long Steel North America, Tampa, Fla., decreased published prices for merchant products by $50 per ton Feb. 15, according to a market source.
