CHICAGO Nucor Corp. has lowered its raw materials surcharge on special bar quality (SBQ), wire rod and semifinished products to $210 per ton ($10.50 per hundredweight) effective March 1.
The new surcharge is down $10 per ton from February's level, the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said in a letter to customers Feb. 14.
Nucor bases its surcharge on AMMs consumer buying price for No. 1 busheling in Chicago, which was $380 per ton. Alloy surcharges remain unchanged from last month.
Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Steel Dynamics Inc. recently said it would lower its March scrap surcharge on SBQ products by $13.33 per ton, or 66.7 cents per cwt (amm.com, Feb. 15)
