LOS ANGELES Solar Manufacturing Inc. has received a furnace order from aerospace gear manufacturer Aero Gear Inc.
Souderton, Pa.-based Solar will supply Aero Gear with a vacuum carburizing furnace that will be used for a variety of gears for both the commercial and military aerospace industries. Carburizing is a heat-treatment process that results in a wear-resistant surface that maintains strength and toughness.
The price of the new furnace wasnt disclosed.
The furnaces heating elements will consist of curved graphite that allows for a maximum operating temperature of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Its work zone will be 24 inches wide by 24 inches high and 36 inches deep, with a hearth than can accommodate a 1,000-pound workload.
Windsor, Conn.-based Aero Gear supplies drive system design, manufacturing and assembly for the aerospace industry; its products range from individual spiral bevel gears to complete gearbox assemblies.
