NEW YORK — Welded mechanical and structural tube maker Blazon Tube Co. will cease operations April 1.

“The closure will affect approximately 25 current production, administrative and management employees,” parent company Leggett & Platt Inc. said.

Carthage, Mo.-based Leggett didn’t return a request for comment on Blazon’s annual output.

The company, which told employees that the closure was “probable” in August 2011, said “efforts for potential replacement business over the past 15 months” had proven unsuccessful.

The closure of West Point, Miss.-based Blazon comes as Leggett & Platt is consolidating the plants’ operations with its LaVergne, Tenn., facility and is implementing “new, technologically advanced equipment,” it said.

Blazon previously employed as many as 75 people, a company source told AMM.
