ORLANDO, Fla. — Duncan Crowdis is retiring as chairman of the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC).

Crowdis, who is also the president of Bonnell Aluminum Inc., will be replaced by Rick Merluzzi, president and chief executive officer of Wellsville, Pa.-based Pennex Aluminum Co.

"It’s time to move on; time to transfer the gavel to my successor," Crowdis said at the AEC’s annual meeting and leadership conference in Orlando, Fla., March 15, noting that he had considered retiring earlier but concluded that "it’s nicer to retire when things are looking on the upside, business is better, people are making money and there is growth in the forecasts."

However, he will continue to work with the AEC after his retirement, he said.

Crowdis last month said he will retire from Newnan, Ga.-based Bonnell Aluminum, a subsidiary of Richmond, Va.-based Tredegar Corp., effective June 1 (amm.com, Feb. 22).
