PITTSBURGH Upstate Shredding LLCBen Weitsman & Son Inc. has been given the green light to start demolition at its newly acquired site in New Castle, Pa.
The New Castle City Council followed the local planning commissions recommendation and awarded the Owego, N.Y.-based recycler a conditional-use permit to operate a scrap metal processing facility, the mayors office confirmed.
Upstate Shredding bought the land from defunct scrap recycler Ferromet Corp. for $2.2 million at an auction late last year (amm.com, Dec. 13).
The recycler is razing the existing structures on the site and plans to construct three new buildings, Upstate Shredding president Adam Weitsman told AMM.
