SAO PAULO — Latin American countries produced nearly 4.6 million tonnes of finished steel in February, up 5.7 percent from 4.35 million tonnes the previous month and 1 percent ahead of February last year, according to figures released by regional steel association Alacero.

Production of long steel products totaled 2.26 million tonnes last month, flat-rolled steel output reached 2.21 million tonnes and seamless tube production totaled 99,000 tonnes.

Brazil was the largest finished steel producer in February at 2.1 million tonnes, followed by Mexico at 1.4 million tonnes.
