Crude steel output rises in Latin America

SÃO PAULO — Latin American crude steel output totaled 5.5 million tonnes last month, up 15.3 percent from 4.77 million tonnes in January and 4 percent higher than in February 2012, according to regional steel association Alacero.

Brazil, which produced 3 million tonnes, and Mexico, which produced 1.5 million tonnes, together accounted for 82 percent of Latin American crude steel output.
