PITTSBURGH Midwest Recycling Center (MRC) has agreed to take over two recycling drop-off centers in Independence, Mo.
The Independence City Council accepted the Barnhart-based recyclers offer to assume responsibility.
The city said MRC will accept all costs associated with running and staffing the facilities, and city workers at the two centers will be transferred to another division. MRC will construct its own buildings at each location and has agreed to continue holding its annual electronic waste recycling events.
Residents can drop off electronics, white goods and appliances that contain fluorocarbons. There is no cost to drop off metal and appliances, but fees ranging from $5 to $35 will be charged to accept cathode ray tube (CRT) computer monitors, CRT televisions and console televisions.
