MEXICO CITY Alonso Ancira
Elizondo has been re-elected as president of Mexican steel
association Canacero for the 2013-14 term.
"Mexico cannot move on without
reacting to phenomena like the economic tsunami generated by
the economic crisis in Europe and the slower growth in Asia,
which has resulted in illegal trade practices," Elizondo said
in a meeting with legislators.
Mexican steelmakers will ask
authorities to modernize trade rules so that the country can to
respond to the global economys challenges, he said.
As an immediate measure,
Elizondo has asked to the Mexican government to strengthen the
Secretariat of the Economys international trade practices
unit, also noting that works carried out in the country "should
have a minimum local content of 60 percent," similar to that in
the United States.
Elizondo is president of
Monclova-based integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico SAB
de CV (Ahmsa).
