The $35-million project included construction of three new 230-kilovolt transmission lines, according to Minnesota Power, a division of Allete Inc. A total of 28 miles of lines were constructed.

Nashwauk-based Essar Steel Minnesota’s facility, which is currently under construction, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 7 million tonnes of taconite pellets.
