Gerdau increasing rebar prices

NEW YORK — Gerdau Long Steel North America has announced a transactional price increase of $10 per ton (50 cents per hundredweight) on reinforcing bar products, effective with new orders April 15.

The price increase is in response to improving overall demand and increased activity in the construction sector, Gerdau said in an April 5 letter to customers. The company said it recognizes recent scrap cost changes, but "scrap is one of many components considered in our pricing decisions."

AMM’s consumer buying price for shredded auto scrap in the Midwest settled down about $20 per gross ton April 4 (amm.com, April 4).
