PITTSBURGH — The Blase family has purchased an auto shredder for its new recycling facility in Lithonia, Ga.

Craig, Gary and Kevin Blase will open Encore Recycling LLC on the 30-acre site this summer. Construction of the facility, which will include a separate wire-chopping plant, is under way.

The company declined to offer further details on the Harris shredder plant, which includes a ferrous downstream separating system.

In 2007, the family sold Norcross, Ga.-based Blaze Recycling & Metals Inc. to a private equity firm. The Blase brothers’ five-year no-compete contract expired in July 2012; they announced in December they were returning to the industry (, Dec. 4).

"The scrap industry has become more competitive since we sold our last enterprise. There are so many new entrepreneurs in our industry, many of whom have acquired new technologies that, in the past, only the most capitalized could afford. This new shredder will help Encore penetrate the market," Craig Blase said.
