NEW YORK — Nucor Corp. has lowered its scrap surcharge on merchant bars and structural products by $22 per ton ($1.10 per hundredweight) and increased its base price for the products by $22 per ton effective immediately, resulting in no net change in transaction prices, the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said in an April 10 letter to customers.

AMM’s consumer buying price for shredded automotive scrap—used as the basis for Nucor’s raw material surcharge—dropped $22 last week ( amm.com, April 4).
