N.C.-based steelmaker Nucor Corp. will lower its scrap
surcharge on special bar quality (SBQ), wire rod and
semifinished products by $21 per ton ($1.05 per hundredweight)
to $232 per ton ($11.60 per cwt) effective with May 1
shipments, it said in an April 10 letter to customers.
The surcharge is based on AMMs consumer
buying price for No. 1 busheling scrap in Chicago, which
settled at $402 per ton this month vs. $423 per ton in March.
Alloy surcharges remain unchanged.
