LOS ANGELES Nucor-Yamato Steel Co., Blytheville, Ark., and Tampa, Fla.-based Gerdau Long Steel North America have each cut their transaction prices for wide-flange and standard beams by $20 per net ton ($1 per hundredweight).
Nucor-Yamato announced in an April 10 letter to customers that it was cutting its raw materials surcharge by $22 per ton ($1.10 per cwt) and raising its base price by $2 per ton (10 cents per cwt), resulting in the net $20-per-ton decrease, effective immediately.
Gerdau, which didnt give a reason for its decrease in its April 11 letter to customers, said its cut was effective with April 11 shipments.
The new f.o.b. mill price is now $785 per ton ($39.25 per cwt) on most core sizes of wide-flange beams.
